Airport expansion meetings

ThisWeek has the details on a couple of public meetings related to the Port Columbus International Airport expansion project:

Gahanna residents with questions or input on the Columbus Regional Airport expansion and noise-compatibility study should attend one of two scheduled public forums.

A forum will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Brentnell Elementary School, 1270 Brentnell Ave., and from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Whitehall Community Park activities center, 402 N. Hamilton Road.

The forums are being held to discuss an update to the Part 150 noise-compatibility study being designed concurrently with an Environmental Impact Statement being conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration….

[Columbus Regional Airport capital program manager Dave] Wall said airport officials believe the airport expansion project will be completed in late 2012.

The project includes construction of a replacement runway, construction of additional taxiways to support the replacement runway, terminal development, parking improvements, property acquisition and relocation of residences, businesses and farms as necessary.

The airport calls the project “Progress is Building”- ooh, clever double meaning, a sure sign that the project has been touched by the hand of the marketing people. The airport has a web page devoted to it with a map and an executive summary.
