Hit, skip, sexual sadism

From an article in the Cleveland Free Times:

Online, ODP Web master Todd Hoffman defended the firing [of Megan Pappada] in his own letter to a local blogger. “As an employee of ODP, any statements, past or present, in the public domain reflect upon the Party so we let her go within hours of learning of the situation,” he wrote.

Speaking of public domain, Mr. Hoffman, the Free Times discovered some online court documents your employers might have overlooked. In 2001, you got two OMVI’s (operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated), a hit/skip, and a resisting arrest charge that was pleaded down to disorderly conduct. Damn, that was one crazy summer, huh?

But the ODP apparently is less interested in dangerous actions than it is impure thoughts.

Hit/skip is a very serious offense. Not that OMVI’s aren’t. Anyway, Matt Naugle wrote a post in response: “Todd Hoffmann… Another Democrat Criminal Boozer“. There’s a crude photoshop. (Go see.)

And then Buckeye State Blog’s Jerid Kurtz posted:

In my opinion, Matt seems to take sexual pleasure out of inflicting pain on individuals personally - it’s a far cry from anything even minutely related to politics. And as long as Republican candidates are frequenting RAB and/or taking out ads at RAB, it’s going to reflect poorly on the Ohio GOP. And trust me, the chickens are coming home to roost on this one very soon. If I were the Republicans, I’d be distancing myself and denouncing Matt and RAB as soon as possible - he gives decent folks on the right a bad name.

Helpfully, Jerid gives us the definition of “sexual sadism”, and does the old psychiatric diagnosis from a distance schtick, long favored the left. It’s pretty funny.

A I have a couple of points on this. First, unlike a few other of Matt’s posts that I disagreed with, this one is totally fair game from a political standpoint. Hoffman’s a player, this stuff is on his record, that’s all there is to it. And the photoshop is fair, though again crude, as well. Whether or not it’s wise is another thing. OMVI’s are non-partisan, and there will be a Republican busted on one pretty soon, I’m sure. The hit/skip thing though is more serious.

Secondly, Jerid seems to be suggesting that Todd Hoffman isn’t political:

Last I checked, none of these folks entered into the political fray personally to warrant these types of attacks. It might be fair for folks to point out a hypocritical point with a staffer not synching up to a party’s platform which they work for, but in Todd’s example Matt’s post is entirely mean spirited spite topped off with an awful picture - there’s nothing political at all.

Hoffman is id’d as a mere “ODP staffer”, sort of like the person who answers the phone over there. I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. Isn’t one of Hoffman’s jobs to put out the ODP message to the Ohiosphere and keep the Democratic blogs in line? Seems like a political role to me.

Whatever it is, Hoffman apparently has a close relationship to BSB. Jerid ought to have disclosed it in his post defending Hoffman and attacking Naugle.

    Brian,

While your partisanship is apparent (nothing wrong with partisanship, even though you won’t admit it), I am surprised on your take on this one. Either you support these types of attacks or not (maybe you had your eyes closed and didn’t see the nasty picture on right angle, if that’s the case, my apologies). Sad that you’d choose party line over ethical behavior. It’s a shame; you’re embarrassing yourself.

HAHA- Doesn’t have Jerid have some DC-based prostitutes to talk about or a couple of bad apples in the YRs?

Jerid LOVES these sorts of attacks- This is the stuff blogs exist for, but I don’t know how that makes me a pervert. I didn’t even do the background research on Todd!

And Jerid needs to get over your politics, Brian. You have the opinions that most of my friends hold- They aren’t conservative, but they certainly aren’t politically correct. I don’t know why Jerid is so bent on OUTING you as a conservative- Its really odd.

Also, I’ve often wondered what motivates Jerid. I don’t know if I could wake up everyday and write in defense of the ruling political class, and to argue that those in the ruling class should have more authority over our lives and our personal finances. How lame.

C’mon, first of all the Cleveland Scene or whoever uncovered this one…not Matt or Brian. This is totally fair game. Matt’s delivery may be like watching Bernie Kosar run (or announce a game) at times, but he is totally within bounds on this.

The story in the primary source is discussing the double standard with the young lady getting canned for mere words and Hoffman getting bombed, getting in an accident and then taking off.

Jerid - seriously, how is Todd not in the “political fray”? You would be all over any GOP staffer that did the same thing and you know it. Also, how can you possibly say that the situations with Hoffman and the young lady are different? I guess words are worse than drunken car accidents.

I hope one day I can live in a world where the only thing I hear are the happy sounds and all the bad stuff I can just put ear muffs on. That would be fantatstic!

Jerid, in my opinion the target of the attack determines what’s appropriate. In the case of a politico, like Hoffman, there are pretty much no holds barred. This is distinctly different from the case of a relative of someone who’s in the fray or a non-political staffer. Hoffman’s got his name out there way to much for a “webmaster”.

Matt: I think he’s more interested in outing me as a Republican than as a conservative.

  5. Posted by Matt N. | Aug 27, 2007 4:15 pm

Right, I should have said Republican.

If Hoffmann gets canned, he can probably still work again for another failed statewide gambling issue campaign. He should re-send Neil Clark is resume.

There’s plenty to slap against staffers at the ORP. I have a lot of it. However, most of that stuff doesn’t involve a political issue, so it’s just slime and yell’er journalism. Hoffman’s a cog in the machine, just like Jason Mauk or Erin. If they have issues that go against the ideology they trumpet, show a hypocritical nature, or that tarnish their organizations…that’s one thing. But this hit was a simple character assassination.

I don’t agree with the nature of the free times article (although I certainly support the angle they come at from the Megan issue), and I don’t agree with the spiteful perversion Naugle put on the issue with his nasty picture and depravity. But hey whatever, you guys have made it clear where you stand.

    Hey Frat Boy Jerid,

I’m a Progressive Activist and Brian leans Libertarian. Matt Naugle and R. Lee Ermey represent certain factions of conservatives.

All of us oppose your BS Blog idiocy along with the misinformation you regurgitate as a “yes man” for Chris Redfern, Todd Hoffman, Bryan Clark and of course Russell Hughlock as well as others. Your words are simply not your own and they are not credible in the slightest.

I’ve never met or directly communicated with Brian, Matt or R. Lee except related to blog posts. Thus, we are a diverse group of seeming “strange bedfellows” who all have expressed revulsion for your “frat boy” tactics and other similarly repulsive tactics used by other front pagers on the BS Blog.

You point your young and inexperienced “frat boy” finger at a lot of people, but when you have to stand the test of looking in the mirror, the mirror cracks and does NOT say “you’re the fairest of them all.” Nope, that designation would go to people like Lisa Renee Ward and Jeff Coryell on the left and I’m not exactly sure who to designate on the right, but there are some reasonably fair blogs that lean conservative/repubublican, IMO.

With that in mind, when will Chris Redfern, Todd Hoffman and Bryan Clark deliver on the promises made to progressive activists over a year and a half ago ??

    Redfern’s ODP as a so-called “big tent” ?? - my ass !!

The BS Blog as a representative of decent and good journalism … BWWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Cindy Sheehan dumped the Democratic Party and so are a lot of other progressive activists because promises made have rarely (if ever) been promises kept.

Redfern can shove it!! He’s all about pompous and arrogant lip-service without measurable action or even attempts to keep his promises.
