Stolen data tape fallout

The IG report was released Friday afternoon. (And we all know what that means.)

OAKS project manager David White resigned on Friday at the request of officials in the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, said Keith Dailey, spokesman for Gov. Ted Strickland.

Intern Jared Ilovar was fired after refusing to resign. The governor also ordered a review of other possible disciplinary action, Dailey said.

The state budget office also terminated the contracts of two outside consultants working on OAKS.

The full Inspector General report is here (pdf).

“Taking home backup tapes is a common practice suitable perhaps for the proprietor of the corner drugstore, but not for major enterprises with large amounts of sensitive data,” the report said. “It is clear that security and confidentiality were secondary concerns.”

Well obviously. On the other hand, I don’t think I want my pharmacist taking my medical records home, so no.
