Buckeye State Blog on the American Taliban

Jerid Kurtz of Buckeye State Blog is getting national play for calling out Mitt Romney on not disavowing a supporter’s sign “comparing” Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden. Here’s Jerid’s latest on the issue:

Romney claims he doesn’t support all the signs his supporters hold up? Normally that’d be reasonable. However, when you, as a candidate, hold a sign up, smile, and get your picture taken with a sign comparing Americans to Osama Bin Laden that sends a different message. It’s even more damning when you’ll sign copies of the picture on the road.

I don’t know that listing those names together equates to “comparing” them, but whatever.

One small problem is that Jerid is a complete hypocrite on the matter of comparing domestic political opponents to our nation’s deadly enemies. Here’s Jerid, only a couple of weeks ago, comparing an Ohio politician to the Taliban, who are currently killing Americans in Afghanistan and who aided Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda in 9/11.

Tom Brinkman and the American Taliban At It Again

Ah, yes…I love it when Representative Brinkman wastes my tax dollars with useless legislation. Love that. Throw some more hundreds on the fire Tom!

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Tom has decided, once again, to go off chasing windmills. On Tuesday Rep. Tom Brinkman re-introduced his total abortion ban (Always in committee, never committed, eh Tom?). Keep in mind this bill isn’t a late term ban, it’s not a slap on the wrist or denial of state/federal funds, this is the full, 100% “American Taliban Women are objects and I’ll tell you how we’re going to control them” version.

Do go to BSB and see the photoshopped picture of Brinkman. Now, most people don’t agree with Tom Brinkman, an Ohio Republican State Rep, on a total abortion ban, but that’s not the point.

This won’t matter much to Romney, but it’s valuable for everyone else to be aware of what Buckeye State Blog is all about.

Ah yes Brian, love the hack job. This is a pattern with you, no? Ignoring the news and finding the smallest hole to hammer on?

Fact: The Taliban did not kill 3000 Americans on September 11th.
Fact: The Taliban are known for their oppressive politics, not for murdering 3000 Americans.
Fact: I am not a politician, nor running for the highest in the land. However, if I were I’d try to act like a leader, and not use the politics of hate to sway an election.

Opinion: Judging from Brian’s writings, and his past blogs, he’s 100% hard core Republican…and that’s fair enough, as long as you acknowledge.

  2. Posted by Eric | Jul 23, 2007 5:48 pm

I think Jerid is saying he is against both Brinkman and The Taliban no? What is Romney saying? So far he’s not saying he is against associating honorable Americans running for President to the “wanted dead or alive” bin Laden. If you think the intent was not to associate bin Laden with the two leading Dem candidates then you are either brain dead or politically tone deaf (or both).

    Yo. Yo. You be shillin’!

I think it’s of value to recognize what Brian O’Connell and Columbuser.com are all about: Consistent deflection of online criticism of Republicans and passive aggressive shilling for the GOP.

PS - This is going to hurt Romney. It’s on the Situation Room now and will probably get even wider distribution. Nothing this shill blog can do about it…but shill. ;-)

    …hickman meltdown in 3…2…

  3. Posted by Brian | Jul 23, 2007 6:00 pm

Fact: The Taliban were accessories of bin Laden and Al Qaeda in the murder of 3000 Americans on September 11th, as everyone who supports the war in Afghanistan knows. They are just as culpable as Al Qaeda.
Fact: The war in Afghanistan continues and Taliban fighters continue to kill Americans even now.
Fact: Romney held up a sign for a photo, and later autographed the photo. He didn’t make the relevant statements himself; you, on the other hand did.

You are correct in noting however that Romney is running for office and that you are not- not yet anyway. But it’s interesting that you implicitly acknowledge that it’s OK for you to use the politics of hate, since you’re not running, but it’s not OK for Romney to do it, since he is.

As for your opinion on my Republican-ness, you’re entitled to it, though we’ve been through this before.

  4. Posted by Brian | Jul 23, 2007 6:08 pm

Eric: I think Jerid is saying he is against both Brinkman and The Taliban no? What is Romney saying?

That’s he’s against Clinton, Obama, and bin Laden? There might be a way to both attack Romney and defend Jerid on these two similar items, but that’s not the way to do it.

And one side-note for the partisans: I don’t even like Romney. I don’t believe that his reversal on abortion, for instance, is genuine. If the race comes down to Romney vs Clinton, there’s a good chance I’d vote for Clinton.

  5. Posted by Eric | Jul 23, 2007 6:12 pm

I’ll tell you what. You publish your voting record and I’ll post mine and I’ll give you 3-1 that your as righty as I am lefty. My guess is you vote straight R regardless. We on?

You’re stretching on the Taliban thing and you know it. A comparison to repressive Taliban policy and Brinkman seems fair giving what he was pimpin’. Trying to mix in Osama’s name with Hillary and Obama…well, to shilling wingnuts might be OK. You’d think you’d want Mitt to come out and say the sign was in poor taste if you were going to have any consistency in your positions, but we can see what’s up here. All good in shillsville!

You dems spin like Lance Armstrong (hey I actually like that). Brian has every right to call Anikan Kurtz’s hypocracy on this issue. The BSB crowd remains pretty quiet when the looney fringe call Bush “Hiter”. calling Brinkman part of American Taliban is wrong. Maybe an assclown, but not the Taliban. And y’all qualifying that Taliban did not kill 3000 Americans and hence you are free of criticism is pure spin and it is lame.

Also, your efforts to play “gotcha” with candidates is going to backfire eventually. If I did not know better it seems Anikan is becoming a tabloid journalist.

#4: I’ll remind you of that Brian should it come down to that. I expect many posts in favor of Hillary should it come down to her versus Romney in a general. I’m almost giddy in anticipation!

  8. Posted by Brian | Jul 23, 2007 6:36 pm

Eric: no reason to wait. I’ll say it now- Clinton is very strong on defense, and while I think she’s crumbled on Iraq due to pressure from her left, I expect that that won’t matter as much by January 2009. I wouldn’t have any misgivings about national defense with her as CiC. (And in a weird way, as Instapundit has noted, crazy partisan Democrats might only begin to favor offense over defense if they don’t have to support a Republican president at the same time, so there’s that.)

To answer your question, I voted straight Republican tickets in ‘04 and ‘06. But I was the fabled single-issue voter. I would have voted for Lieberman in ‘04 for the sole purpose of encouraging bipartisan support for the war, but, alas, it wasn’t to be. Dems abandoned him and the war.

What IS the BS blog “all about” ???

I haven’t figured it out yet except that it has become extremely Hoffmanesque in it’s capacity to use deception and manipulation of facts.

The BS blog certainly is NOT a reliable and/or credible source of accurate information and neither is much of what Todd Hoffman puts out on his Ohio Democratic Party blog. Hoffman’s current work for the ODP is reflective of his past Ohio Lie and Earn days of pro-gambling manipulative propaganda.

Jerid Kurtz of the BS blog is one of Todd Hoffman’s current young punk boot lickers. Thus, it often seems that the rhetoric being disseminated on the BS blog is simply a variation on the spin doctored press releases that Todd Hoffman puts out for the Ohio Democratic Party.

PS - I’m a registered Democrat who is sort of a progressive and moderate hybrid (depending on the issue). I’d like everyone here to know that 5 other organizers and I gathered over 1,500 grassroots supporters for the John Kerry Meetups between 2003-04.

My, my how my impression of the Ohio Democratic Party has gone downhill since I first started to organize Meetups in 2003. Also, in an attempt at disclosure, I also organized some of the first 2003-04 Dennis Kucinich Meetups and have since been part of organizing various peace/anti-war actions as well as election reform and election protection efforts.

Call me a tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist or whatever you want Jerid. But, we don’t view our work that way and we’ll do what it takes to make sure you and other BS bloggers clearly understand what we believe and at what point we will take a stand against your BS.

  10. Posted by Jerid | Jul 23, 2007 11:50 pm

    right on cue.

  11. Posted by Matt N. | Jul 24, 2007 1:44 am

Leave it to Jerid to make me sympathetic towards a candidate that I dislike so much.

And comparing Brinkman, a sincerely devout Catholic who simply wants to stop the murder of millions of innocent unborn babies, to terrorists is about the most absurd claim anyone could make.

But lets look at the actual claim of what the sign said- It was comparing terrorists to Obama, right? I don’t see much of a moral difference between a terrorist and a politician who is willing to be so weak on terror that they can strike again. Democrats aren’t terrorist, but they are terrorist enablers who have put on their Noam Chomsky-colored glasses and put their heads in the sand. And because of that, Democrats deserved to be mocked, unmercifully.

  12. Posted by Matt N. | Jul 24, 2007 1:50 am

PS- Jerid thinks Brian is a Republican, while I think Brian is a reasonable liberal. Because of that. I think Brian is clearly doing something right, and has a more widely accepted world view than Jerid or I have. Blogs tend to attract extremes, and its refreshing to not have all debates be between FReepers and socialist libertines.

    brian,

let’s just dispense with the pretense, shall we?

either you’re a right wing shill, or you’re a traffic whore who only attacks BSB on a repeated basis simply to get anyone, anyone at all, to leave comments at your site.

it’s hard to say which is more pathetic - pimping yourself out to the right wing, or pimping yourself out to the likes of naugle and hickman in order to get said fools to double your traffic. i vote for the latter.

i do have to give you credit for being the only blog in the entire state of ohio that has gotten both of these crazed nutjobs to blow smoke up your ass. magnificent navigation of the seas of the absurd, i must say. if that’s your goal, bravo indeed. you have achieved traffic from literally anyone at all. two of them.

as for the voting record, what. ever. you and Glenn Reynolds deserve each other’s utter disingenuousness.

  16. Posted by Jerid | Jul 24, 2007 9:56 am

    Matt,

What part of “I don’t drink” do you not understand.

Drunkenly going through 9/11 refers to how hazy that day was for me. Thanks for the smear. Ya never change, do you kiddo?

  17. Posted by R. Lee Ermey | Jul 24, 2007 10:07 am

Man, there are some serious “haters” on the Dem side when it comes to this whole blog thing. If it is not blessed by the “proessionals” then they send you to hell.

Brian, pay no mind to these guys. For some reason they are just full of hate and anger. (Now would be the time that they go nuts and say that they do not hate, that only the GOP hates and GOP is responsible for Vick dogfighting and crooked NBA ref)

    xoxo

  18. Posted by tim russo | Jul 24, 2007 10:22 am

no, Mr. “Ermey”, now would be the time we point out that assholes like you always seem to be so cleverly and courageously anonymous. such strength in your convictions!

which of course makes for more traffic for brian. which i guess makes him clever too.

  19. Posted by Dave Hickman | Jul 24, 2007 2:20 pm

Russo… man you are really out-of-bounds regarding your lack-of-credibility-self arrogantly sending bombs out into the blogosphere. I won’t go much further, but you tell me one person in the blogosphere who is a convicted sex offender?

    Enough said…

  20. Posted by Brian | Jul 24, 2007 2:30 pm

tim: either you’re a right wing shill, or you’re a traffic whore who only attacks BSB on a repeated basis simply to get anyone, anyone at all, to leave comments at your site.

Are those really my only two options?

  21. Posted by tim russo | Jul 24, 2007 4:39 pm

    brian,

nice comeback - really, i respect a good comeback.

your blog seems like it has potential, but honestly, at the moment, those do look like your only two options. Exhibit A being it’s the current residency of the Ohio blogosphere’s two most crazed lunatics.

i keep coming back though, because i guess i keep hoping you’ll prove me wrong. and i do like the scarlet and grey motif.

  22. Posted by R. Lee Ermey | Jul 24, 2007 4:57 pm

Assholes like me? Because I remain anonymous I am an asshole? Maybe I don’t want to have people digging up my home address to post on a blog, my dad’s three DUI’s or getting played gotcha on by a first year law student in NH, which seems to happen pretty regularly round the blogoshere.

Or….Maybe I like to be mysterious, a dark shadowy figure in a parking garage (but I will not allow my code name to be Deepthroat).

But, dear Mr. Russo - as the self-appointed moral czar of the blogosphere allows you to call me an asshole.

Who gives a shit if I want to remain anonymous? If I give out my identity what then? Will you want to challenge me to a dual if I slander your precious ideology? GET A SENSE OF HUMOR PEOPLE! Adios mio.

  23. Posted by Brian | Jul 24, 2007 5:29 pm

tim: Please don’t call other commenters assholes, thank you.

Exhibit A being it’s the current residency of the Ohio blogosphere’s two most crazed lunatics.

    So that’s you and…? :)

To quote Mitt Romney, “Lighten up.”

  24. Posted by tim russo | Jul 24, 2007 7:00 pm

so much for reasonableness, brian. enjoy your two lunatics.

  26. Posted by Matt N. | Jul 25, 2007 12:04 am

OK now everyone- Just take a deep breath, lighten up, and lets all look at this calmly.

Good. Now lets ask each other: In a just society, wouldn’t Tim Russo already be executed?
