Buckeye State Blog engaging in blackmail?

Last time around I questioned whether Jerid at BSB had illegally recorded a telephone conversation with Eric Forbes, the political director of the Bill Todd campaign. Now it appears that he’s blackmailing the Todd campaign. I don’t care to get sued for libel, and I am not a lawyer, but here’s Wikipedia on blackmail:

Blackmail is the act of threatening to reveal information about a person, or even do something to destroy the threatened person, unless the blackmailed target fullfills certain demands. This information is usually of an embarrassing or socially damaging nature.

Here’s Admin at BSB, who I believe is Jerid:

Since Eric didn’t get the seriousness of my vague warning to the Todd campaign the other day, which I emailed to Eric at that same personal email address he used to contact Williamson, we’re going to play a game. I’m going to give the Todd campaign some lifelines. When the campaign decides to make a dick move, I’m going to take a lifeline away. Cause I’m a swell guy, I’m starting them with four lifelines - one of which they’ve used today.

I really don’t want to have to drop my electoral surprise. And honestly, Eric, Todd, it’s your decision. Shape up, or deal with the consequences.

The shoe seems to fit. Any actual lawyers out there familiar with state or local blackmail laws? Please comment.

    I am not a lawyer, but as I have stated here before. The BSB folks are becoming a caricature of themselves. I don’t know if it is Jerid’s age or lack of experience…or complete lack of humility but he has made things personal and I think this Eric Forbes kid is seeming to get under his skin. Maybe a more seasoned person over at BSB ought to have a sit down with the young man and advise him to settle down.

    I will say I enjoy his posts from NH and think that it is a really great opportunity for him. But he is totally losing his mind on the local stuff it seems. Maybe NH does not have much night life and he is having problems blowing off steam. Who knows.

    I yield back the balance of my time…

    This one’s easy. You were wrong then (about the phone call) and you are wrong now.

    Haven’t heard back so I guess you don’t wanna hook up for a beer at Comfest. [sniffles]

    Not a lawyer, yet… but as you’ve shown multiple times, neither are you. Ermey…good to see you shillin’ as well.

    As for Todd, it’s really a shame that he’s decided to run such a nasty campaign. Just recommending he get back on track, above the bar, drop the smears and that jazz. I guess my rightwing friends wouldn’t understand that since smears are your bread and butter.

  4. Posted by Eric | Jun 21, 2007 4:18 pm

    Sorry, shit. ComFest, as it were…

    Hehe.

  5. Posted by Jerid | Jun 21, 2007 4:19 pm

    And yea…no secret that I’m Admin. Trying to keep my NH posts seperate.

    Eric, I’m not sure yet if I’m going or not.

    Hey, at least you are one year closer to a JD than I am. I can understand that argument, as the negative stuff gets old sometimes. But, there have been some issues that the Coleman folks have laid out their and the Todd folks have to take a run at them. If they go too far, they will have to deal with the consequences.

    I actually do like your NH material. Even though I can’t stand the hippie/commie stuff, keep up the good work. They are entertaining.

    Since your SOP is to publish claims that I’m violating the law after every reputable post I put up, I guess I’m just gonna have to give you some legal crash courses. Enjoy reading ORC 2905.11, our extortion (blackmail) statute. When you can find the section I’ve violated, and back it up, then go ahead and give the Cuyahoga County prosecutor a call. I’ll take your apologies now. Before you jump down my throat on (5), think about your comments very carefully.

    2905.11 Extortion

    (A) No person, with purpose to obtain any valuable thing or valuable benefit or to induce another to do an unlawful act, shall do any of the following:

    (1) Threaten to commit any felony;

    (2) Threaten to commit any offense of violence;

    (3) Violate section 2903.21 or 2903.22 of the Revised Code;

    (4) Utter or threaten any calumny against any person;

    (5) Expose or threaten to expose any matter tending to subject any person to hatred, contempt, or ridicule, or to damage any person’s personal or business repute, or to impair any person’s credit.

    (B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of extortion, a felony of the third degree.

    (C) As used in this section, “threat” includes a direct threat and a threat by innuendo.

    are you confusing me with someone else? Or are you talking to Brian?

    By the way, just heard Ohio icon Bob evans died. Give him a big double sausage patty sandiwich salute when you can.

  11. Posted by Jerid | Jun 21, 2007 4:59 pm

    Was talking to Brian. Apologies Ermey.

  12. Posted by Eric | Jun 22, 2007 10:50 am

    I’m sad. “Brian” doesn’t return emails.

  13. Posted by King | Jun 22, 2007 11:13 am

    Just to jump in on the taping part….

    Sure one of you smart guys can correct me if I am wrong.

    I believe in Ohio it is legal to tape phone conversations as long as one party is aware the call is being taped. That one party can be the person that is doing the taping.

    While Jerid & I do not share the same views, I would think saying he is trying to blackmail someone is a stretch. Knowing some of the same people, I find this very very hard to believe.

    Is that Eric V offering up a beer? I’ll take one! We can discuss our training for any upcoming boxing matches with Senor Troll at RAG.

    #13: King, we both know the next time I see you you get a beer and a twenty spot. Doubt you’re making ComFest in C-town, but if you do a beer is on me!

  16. Posted by King | Jun 22, 2007 2:41 pm

    Eric,

    we will use the twenty on beers for us. I did live in Worthington for a couple years. Is not that far but got an Italian American Festival to go to this weekend. Bocce Ball, meatballs, home made Dago red, Fontenella cheese and pretty Italian women - damn I’m leaving work early.

    But I was also thinking…..

    If BSB is riding someone that is a republican, would that be any worse the the state GOP listing his mom’s phone number and address on the front page of their website? I think not!

    I am a conservative and wouldn’t kick a dog in the ass with the State GOP.

    #9 - Jerid I’ve seen you write the words “back it up” numerous times, but anytime someone challenges you on BSB, you censor and ban them then automatically claim that they are me (Dave Hickman).

    You’ve wrongly accused so many people of being Dave Hickman that I’m really starting to get a lot of recognition. Heck, a lot of those people you ban are better at debunking you than I am. So, I’ll take the credit, but I don’t deserve it most of the time.

    One time you first accused someone of being me, then you changed your story and accused them of being Tim Russo.

    Now, I don’t know how you go about determining who is who regarding anonymous posters at BSB, but there’s no way you would ever truthfully confuse me with Tim Russo.

    So, why are you so intent on publishing BS on the BS blog? I’m grateful that you find me such a compelling figure to write about, but I don’t understand why you feel justified to falsely turn innocent anonymous posters into someone you openly hate named Dave Hickman.

    Since you’re so prone to use the words “back it up” I’d like you to “back it up” every time you accuse some anonymous poster of being me. Practice what you preach frat boy.

    isn’t hickman the guy with the progressive puke with the gay brother?

  20. Posted by Dave Hickman | Jun 23, 2007 8:37 am

    Be more specific King.

    Your writing style is so enlightening, especially your “let’s blow-up everyone” war-mongering posts and your psuedo-scientific data on “homos.”

    I’m not sure who you’re referring to as a “progressive puke” with a “gay brother.” But, I have a half-brother who is married and used to work for a republican state legislator.

    King, go drink a beer with PlunderDUMB at ComFest. Today would be an especially good day for you to march in a parade wearing a T-shirt with huge lettering that says “King’s Right Site says GAYS SUCK”. Be sure to hold both of your middle fingers high in the air and yell a lot as you boldly march around the Short North.

    Just think King, you’ll get thousands of “hits” for simply marching for an hour or so in one parade. But, you might want to borrow PlunderDUMB’S boxing gloves or bring something a little more substantial to protect yourself.

    Do you own an Uzzi sub-machine gun?
